marvel - purple barton

Guess who ate ALL the popcorn.

1. I will never understand the internet.

I really love all of you guys, and I am aware that, for whatever strange reason, you guys love me, and you have no idea how much I appreciate your love. That being said, I've never been what you'd call a popular writer. The only fandoms I've even been an MNF in are Hellsing and Mythbusters, which have a combined total of 38 fans. It's just not my lot in life, y'know? And I'm past caring about it, because I'd rather make my flist happy than get a thousand comments.

So I have a mystery on my hands. I am PERPLEXED. Go the Fuck to Sleep has gotten 57 kudos on the AO3 and 155 (!!!!!!!!!) saves on Delicious (even with the Delicious drama) and is about to tie with Nice Place to Visit as my highest hit count story on the AO3. And I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how this happened. I mean, XMFC is still a really big fandom, but my other XMFC stories aren't half as popular. The really mind-boggling thing about it is that there are no comments at the AO3 and no recs, at least that I've been able to find, and I have been googling like a madwoman trying to figure this shit out.

I understand that it has a funny title and is for a big fandom, but come the fuck on.

2. In my weekend theme of doing whatever the hell I want to do and not seeing anyone, I went to the aforementioned arthouse theatre that I so love and saw Welt am Draht (World on a Wire). Really an amazing piece of work, and definitely ahead of its time; it foreshadows stuff like Blade Runner, The Matrix, and particularly Inception. If you have seen any of these films, or if you are paying any attention at all, you will already know the twist about thirty minutes ahead of time, but it didn't take any of the fun out of it, for me. It is hella long and sometimes overwrought in the way German cinema is (I love you, my German friends, but I know you know what I'm talking about), but it's definitely worth it.

What I find particularly interesting, though, is the ending. Collapse )

So! World on a Wire: pretty great. It is presently touring the US and is available on Region 2 DVD, but according to my wikipedia learnings it was circulated on the internets before it was restored, so I imagine you could find it if you knew where to look.

And now I am going to smoke a thousand cigarettes and drink ALL THE WHISKEY. Oh movies from the seventies.
